IIT Madras, TIDCO Launch Advanced Automotive Research Centre

IIT Madras and TIDCO are setting up the Advanced Automotive Translational Research Centre at Tamil Nadu Knowledge City. The ₹200 crore facility, spread over 40,000 square feet, will focus on electric powertrains, battery systems, charging infrastructure, automotive electronics, and software-defined vehicles.

The five-year project targets practical automotive development over academic research. Both large manufacturers and startups will access testing and validation infrastructure at the site.

The centre expects to generate 2,100 jobs. TIDCO has already invested in EV startups like Raptee Energy, backing the state’s manufacturing ambitions with capital deployment alongside infrastructure.
