Gap Turns to AI to Clean Up Its Supply Chain Act

Gap Inc. is deploying an AI-powered platform from supply chain tech company Inspectorio across its entire brand portfolio which includes Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic, and Athleta. This will take the retailer’s back-end operations well beyond conventional quality checks.

Inspectorio’s platform uses AI to collect granular data and automate tasks across the production chain, giving Gap a clearer picture of what’s happening across its sprawling international supplier network. The goal is to have end-to-end product visibility , traceability and faster, better-informed decision-making.

The need for having global visibility is beyond just operational efficiency , it’s more to do with keeping pace with the regulatory changes.

A wave of international compliance mandates is pressing large apparel brands to demonstrate responsible sourcing. France’s Anti-Waste Law for a Circular Economy, the EU Deforestation Regulation, and upcoming Digital Product Passport requirements are all adding pressure. There’s also the US Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act and an incoming EU forced labor ban to comply with . For Gap, being able to map its supply chain upstream and back that up with data is a way to be on top of these regulatory requirements.

Inspectorio’s platform brings together quality management, compliance, responsible sourcing, lab test management, production tracking, and traceability into a single system. The platform’s AI layer includes predictive tools that flag risk areas before they become problems, and prescriptive capabilities that recommend corrective actions.

Other global players like Urban Outfitters parent URBN rolled out Inspectorio’s platform in December 2025, and Dick’s Sporting Goods expanded its use of the company’s sourcing tools back in 2024. For the apparel industry, AI-driven supply chain management is fast becoming table stakes.
