Carborundum Universal Limited (CUMI) commenced commercial production of cutting and grinding wheels at its new Hosur facility, doubling the company’s annual manufacturing capacity from 45 million to over 91 million wheels.
The facility has production lines from DRONCO GmbH, Germany. CUMI relocated these manufacturing lines to Hosur and commissioned them as a center of excellence for cutting and grinding wheel manufacturing. The plant features SCADA-based process controls, automated press lines, and unmanned oven handling systems designed to enhance product performance and cost competitiveness.
Products manufactured at the facility will serve both domestic and international markets across fabrication, construction, and general engineering sectors.
The facility has received certification from the Organization for the Safety of Abrasives (oSa), a worldwide protected trademark certifying that cutting and grinding tools meet the highest safety standards. This certification enables CUMI to serve industrial applications requiring stringent safety compliance.
The company operates as an integrated mines-to-market organization with over 10,000 employees worldwide, serving customers across diverse industries in more than 60 countries.
The capacity expansion supports CUMI’s goal to meet growing demand in industrial sectors while strengthening its position in the abrasives manufacturing landscape.
